Sixteen years after the shooting, in 2016, Daryl and his colleagues were awarded a Group Bravery Citation by the Governor-General of Australia, Sir Peter Cosgrove, which was presented by the Governor of Queensland, His Excellency Paul de Jersey. Created in 1990, the Citation recognises acts of bravery by members of the community who put themselves in jeopardy selflessly to protect the lives or property of others.
