Queensland Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson awarded Daryl the Queensland Police Service Valour Award — the Service’s highest honour for bravery — for his actions in the line of duty during an armed ambush at West Chermside on May 1, 2000. The award was bestowed in recognition of actions of exceptional bravery in hazardous circumstances.

Group Bravery Citation

General Sir Peter Cosgrove, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, awarded Daryl and his colleagues the Group Bravery Citation in recognition of a collective act of bravery in extraordinary circumstances. The citation recognises the Queensland Police members who were ambushed and fired upon while attending a neighbourhood dispute at West Chermside, Queensland, on May 1, 2000.
